Of all the things I’ve learned about the heart, one of the most surprising is that the heart is the first organ to form in the womb… Which now, when I think about it, makes sense. Especially considering that the heart has consciousness.
I kept having the image of a clay heart pop into my mind. I even had dreams where I saw myself making a clay heart sculpture. I was going through a separation. I was instantly a single Mum to two small children. In essence, I was (at that time) absolutely heart broken but I did not consciously link the two.
When I began sculpting clay hearts, there were some powerful coincidences that spoke to and expressed the emotional power of our hearts. The first happenstance occurred when I first began making hearts in that art shack – during the residency. I believe the sculptured hearts speak on a level of consciousness I cannot yet fully articulate. They find their way into the lives whose hearts they represent.
